Mivos Quartet

We are happy to report that our European summer tour was a great success! We started our tour at the Aldeburgh Festival in England, where we spent a week working on Lachenmann’s String Quartet No. 3 “Grido” with the Arditti Quartet and the composer himself.  We also performed pieces by Marcos Balter and the “Kanter/Mivos quartet Competition” winner 2011: Felipe Lara. From there we went to Vienna for a week, where we collaborated with the composer/turntablist Jorge Sanchez-Chiong and the guitarist/electronic musician Martin Siewert. We premiered a new piece with them and performed our own set at the lovely Vienna venue Echoraum. Our next stop was Düsseldorf, performing twice at theAsphalt Festival. We gave the European premiere of Bojan Vuletic’s quintet for trumpet and string quartet with the fantastic Nate Wooley, and the world premiere of Vuletic’s string quartet Unschärfe. Our final stop was the Darmstadt International Summer Courses. We spent two intense weeks working on projects with Lucas FelsUli Fussenegger and Marino Formenti. All in all we had three concerts, a Lachenmann performance/lecture, and a composer reading session. After all that work, we were awarded a Fellowship Award for Interpretation, which means we’ll be headed back to Darmstadt in 2014 with direct support from the festival! A very big thank you to everyone who helped us get to Europe this summer!
